The definition of simple background

Posted under Tags

The wiki is already clear enough and was rewritten as a result of that very discussion - there's nothing going on in those backgrounds, they are simple by definition. Simple background is not restricted to one solid colour; it's the essence of lack of an actual detailed background that makes it a simple background, not how many (or lack of) colours there are.

post #8789361 is currently tagged two-tone but I wouldn't call it simple at all same with images like post #8836079 while there is a lack of a defined background what is there isn't in line with the second verse of the wiki.

OP instance is less extreme, but if it's allowed I'd like the "rule of thumb" line just removed altogether and replaced with. "Backgrounds with no discernable location" or something to that effect.

post #8789361 is absolutely a simple background. Rule of thumb is only meant to be just that, or a way of helping conceptualise the concept - it's not a definition. There's no need to remove it to make it "clearer" when it's already clear.

Fair enough I guess - I suppose I leaned a bit too hard in on the definition of there being a void and nothing significant enough but I guess patterened backgrounds probably shouldn't be considered simple huh.
