nuke pool:1851

This is an ultra broad pool that isn't even being used properly, with characters from franchises like Bleach that are only in the pool because they have dark skin. The name is misleading to those not from Europe or North America, where people of color may be the majority instead. If specific cultures or religions are needed to be found, that can be done with tags. (e.g. muslim, egyptian clothes, etc.)

Sure it might be really broad but it gets the point across. It's like a collection for designs and ethnicities that aren't commonly represented in anime. I find that interesting enough on its own. You can find things you don't expect there which makes browsing it worth it, much more interesting than looking for specific clothes or specifically religious stuff.

For the dark skin issue you could discuss the removal of those posts and update the pool's description to make it more clear what it should actually apply for.

Since we don't tag ethnicities, a large portion of this pool could genuinely not be replaced with a tag search. In fact, just two out of twenty of the most recent posts are tagged with specific culture tags. Nuking outright would be unfair to the users who do get some use out of this pool, and the reasons listed are fairly weak.

I assume you mean one post of one character from Bleach (post #282387) that was the only incorrect post in the first 5 pages of the pool before I removed it. This pool is generally moderated pretty well and doesn't have nearly the same broadness problem as some other pools (e.g. Disgustingly Adorable).

When it comes to ways to improve the pool, however, I wonder if we should set a limit on the number of times the same character can show up in the pool. There are over six pages of Asirpa in there, and I feel like we get the idea at this point. (Though this may not be the case if people would rather see all posts that fit the criteria no matter what.)

I agree with Admiral Pectoral and Feline Lump, unless you want to start tagging ethnicities for all these images, the pools purpose is still pretty specific, even if the images cover a lot of groups. That said, "Minorities" is a loaded term with western framing, so I also agree with the name being an issue as it invites seeing things through that western lens.

Perhaps calling the pool "Ethnic Representation" would remove the problem of the misuse of minorities as a term, while preserving the exact purpose of the pool, which is to bring together all the depictions that users who want grounded examples of art of characters who are obviously not White or East Asian, and has a more global framing.

Make it stricter by requiring images be clear examples of African/African American/Black, South/Southeast Asian, Middle Eastern/West Asian, Native American, First Nation, Aboriginal, Oceanian/Polynesian, etc. That way depictions of dark skin alone is not the sole qualifier of an image being in the pool.

This sounds good, but regarding East Asian countries, what about the representation of minority cultures in them?

Agree with all the points in this thread in favor of keeping it. I also think that this limiting is a good idea for popular characters. I don't know what the exact number should be, but images like post #3007196 where it's an alt costume and serafuku should be excluded.
