Nuke resolution metatags

Would it be possible to change what gets tagged with highres? And maybe run a bot to clear the no longer highres posts?

Changing resolution tags from one arbitrary resolution to another will just cause a huge mess. Are we going to update them again when 2k monitors become the norm instead of 1080p? And again at 4k? That just creates a huge number of random post versions for no good reason, and we'll never have a satisfactory result regardless.

Some more data:

On Google, the median "large" image is ~1.5 MP.
On Bing, the median "large" image is ~1.4 MP and the median "extra large" ~2.4 MP.
On Yandex, the median "large" image is ~2 MP.
On Baidu, the median "large" image is ~1 MP and the median "extra large" ~5.5 MP.

Our median highres image of the last 200000 posts is ~3 MP, with ~2 % being under 1 MP and ~27 % under 2 MP.

  • Pixiv considers images under 1000x1000 px to be "small", up to 2999x2999 px "medium" and anything above "large"!
