Important explanation as to why they are so parallel:

Brainwashing is the literal translation to the tag from pixiv: "sennou" #洗脳. While mind control is the umbrella term used in (e-/ex)Hentai and in practice it got most of its posts due to its implication with the hypnosis tag, respectively "saimin" #催眠...

"洗脳" was only added to the 'other names' of brainwashing which meant posts only got tagged with either or tag.

There are posts like post #3344819, post #2230985 and post #3459551 that are brainwashing but not mind control though. The main problems are probably for more mundane methods of brainwashing, or when a brainwashing is in progress. Perhaps reverse the direction of the alias?

Or, perhaps...

• Move such "mundane brainwashing" or "brainwashing in progress" examples out of brainwashing and into hypnosis.
• Move remaining examples into mind control. Depopulate brainwashing entirely.
• Remove 洗脳 as the "other (Japanese) tag" on the Brainwashing wiki, to prevent auto-suggested tags (because Pixiv tends to use it as "brainwashed" instead of "brainwashing").
• Alias hypnosis to brainwashing.
• Alternatively alias brainwashing to hypnosis, and clarify in the hypnosis wiki that it is also used for other "mundane brainwashing methods" that aren't necessarily hypnosis.

The terms lend themselves to ambiguity already to the point the vaguer word is preferable considering how laxly the tags are used in pixiv and in consequence here. I'm not for further distinction since it's hard to picture a user having interests that specific. I'll take the suggestion to reverse the alias.

I'm generally opposed to aliases that propose a broader umbrella term be aliased to a narrower more specific term. If they're to be aliased, I would be unopposed to reversing the alias to brainwashing -> mind control.
