I feel similarly not wanting to make new chartags for every costume that ever comes out of gacha games, but it seems like the general consensus has been that it's more convenient this way both for tagging purposes and for searching purposes. I think it also slots into evazion's thoughts on the matter back on forum #172656.

I think using shared gentags for alternate costumes is really confusing. When I see a tag like Platinum (Shimmering Dew) (Arknights) I can tell exactly what it is. It's a specific alternate costume for a specific character. I may have no idea what that costume looks like, but I know it's for some costume, and I can click the tag easily enough to figure out what that costume is.
Contrast this with Fate/Grand Order:
I have no idea what any of this shit means when I see it in a tag list. I hate it so much.
Or compare this with Heroic Spirit Traveling Outfit or Heroic Spirit Festival Outfit. These are shared outfit tags that combine about 40 different outfits for 40 different characters in one umbrella tag. This is deeply confusing. Especially when only one or two characters make up the majority of these tags. For example, the bulk of Heroic Spirit Traveling Outfit is actually just a specific techwear outfit for Abigail Williams. Trying to make sense of this as a non-Fate person is very difficult.
