Retro/Oldschool

BUR #3708 has been rejected.

create alias retro -> oldschool

The retro tag only has 58 posts (compared to over 4k in oldschool), and there doesn't seem to be any difference between the type of content in them. It didn't have a wiki either until I added one just for the sake of creating an alias.

Personally I’m in favor of oldschool getting aliased to retro instead. Oldschool is more broader while retro is more direct in meaning, for posts using older style aesthetics. Would also like to known what you guys think of implicating 1920's to 1990's styles to retro/oldschool as well.

I dislike retro as a tag for art styles, because the term is commonly used for other things as well, like retro clothing or retro architecture. Some posts tagged retro have arguably been using it this way already. See post #3256955 and post #4005755 — the outfits are vintage fashion, but the characters aren't drawn in the style of that era.

Oldschool has issues of its own, but at least it isn't as ambiguous as retro.

I would say it's equally as ambiguous. They're both used for more than just art.

Edit: It would probably help to rename the tag to retro artstyle or oldschool artstyle. Oldschool and retro by themselves are too ambiguous.

I agree with blindVigil and the renaming. The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of oldschool is old game consoles and the 90s.

• oldschool gets renamed to retro artstyle
• retro gets mass-updated to retro artstyle

Renaming retro to retro artstyle and aliasing oldschool to retro artstyle is probably the simplest approach, and should take care of anyone trying to search/tag oldschool

We could do the reverse and make it oldschool artstyle, I really have no preference for one or the other.

Just looked around the tags a bit, and it seems we already have a vintage clothes tag, its just barely used. I'm going to try and populate it a bit with some relevant posts from the retro and oldschool tags.
