[REJECTED] Tag implication: visor_cap -> hat

Posted under Tags

tag implication #9165 visor_cap -> hat has been rejected.

Reason: The wiki states that a visor cap is a type of hat. I thought of this implication after seeing a visor cap post tagged with blue hat (implicating hat), which added the hat tag when it wasn't there previously. It implied that a visor cap wasn't a type of hat.

EDIT: The tag implication visor_cap -> hat (forum #155499) has been rejected by @NWF_Renim.

Is it really a hat, though? Hats are, unless I've misunderstood the concept my entire life, intended to perform the function of covering one's head. Sun visors don't do this. They're more like a headband with a baseball cap's bill attached.

By the way, when this implication was last proposed a couple years ago, there was at least one suggestion that the wiki be changed to not use the word "hat". As for tags like blue_hat implicating hat, I'd support switching to less specific color tags like blue_headwear instead.

I have actually been considering submitting a BUR for switching over all colour_hat tags to colour_headwear instead, only problem is it's gonna take a long time for it to go through all those tags. I agree visor caps aren't hats though.

I'd be very much in favor of generalized color headwear tags. Not only is there the issue with visor caps, but it also feels wrong to be giving headwear like helmet the COLOR_hat tags, and I don't want to create COLOR_helmet tags.

Not sure what all items should go into the colored headwear group, as I still remember the contention with some of the neckwear items.

The following are from the Tag Group:Attire wiki.

The only ones I'm not sure on are the crown category, headband (which includes forehead protector), hairband, and headdress (which includes maid headdress).

BUR

A BUR should probably should go in its own topic though. The discussion should probably be moved there as well, since not everyone is going to check out this topic based upon its title.

Personally I'd say no to crown as well - someone searching for "yellow headwear" having been redirected there from "yellow hat" is not going to be looking for a mass of golden crowns which they would have to trawl through to find anything else - and they're somewhat different to any of the things in the "yes" list above in both nature and purpose. Crowns have more in common with tiaras and circlets than they do with hats and head coverings.

I would say no to bandana as well on account of the fact that they are often worn in a similar manner to headbands.

Other than that the things I recognise with a "yes" in the list above all look okay to me.
