[Pool (or Tag?) Idea] Borrowed garments

Posted under General

As per the title, I want to make a pool for posts where a character borrows outfit/accessory belong to other characters for other purpose than cosplay. Using the cosplay tag on these posts doesn't feel right to me.

I think it might be worth to pool them together.

Here's my planned description for this pool:

When a character borrows outfit/accessory belong to other characters. It's an act for other purpose than trying to dress as other character (such as showing affection, covering, being protected or as a memento...)

Cosplay posts may apply in case:

  • The borrowed costume is incompleted or wearing over the odinary costume.
  • The owner is also showed in the post while not wearing that garment.

Don't add post when character canonly wears those borrowed garments at some point of the story, unless the garment or the act of lending/borrowing it is in the focus.[/i]

What do you guys think about this?

For every instance one tag? I think the concepts we see in the example are quite different.
Shouldn't a tag cover one thing? Now there are posts with borrowed clothes that show a different purpose.

Just think of it like a catch-all tag.

A catch-all tag that describes more than what we plainly see: A borrowed garment for some specific purpose other than cosplay. What you are describing is nothing more than cosplaying. Then we also don't need a new tag.

To be honest, for this to be a pool is kinda off. I'm sure there are LOTS of pics like what OP described. If this become a pool, I'm afraid it will suffer the same fate like Pixiv 1000 pool, where it got abandoned after reaching the point where the posts are just too much to be called an "ordinary" pool.

For me, tag is already enough. I always think that pool is reserved for posts with huge "wow" or "I don't expect this" near memetic factor (excluding comics and image sets) to the point that they should be united in a single pool for everyone's amusement. This "borrowed garment" is far too tame for it to be a pool.

And besides Collection Pools are meant to be subjective on matters. Seeing a character "borrowed" a piece of clothing or accessories from another character regarding the circumstances is pretty much an objective case and can be covered by a tag. We tag based on what we see and clearly as the description says, this required if we see a piece of clothing or accessories is being borrowed.

well, I did intent to make this a new tag at first.

  • I'm afraid it could mess up cosplay tag in the long run. A generic tag name like this easly use without looking at its wiki while A pool's description get more attention before being used (with sample posts underneath).
  • It's kind of subjective theme due to it bases on how the garment is worn and borrower/lender's purpose (sometimes invole commentary or other info outside the post (as post #2014003). It might break the "tag what you see" rule I observe.

Those thoughts made me step back and switch it to pool.

Anyway, it's not like we don't have bunch of subjective tags already. I don't mind switch back to TAG then. But I'm wondering if I should cross out that "canonly" line 'cause I using it to prevent Ribbon Homura and naked-coat Nia flooding the pool.

Then just put if the original owner of the garment is also present in the picture otherwise it doesn't, this just applies for cannon tagging such as Serena is borrowing Ash's clothes where Ash is also visible in the picture.

Nah, Serena is disguised as Ash. That is cosplay. What you're saying is covered in bullet2 : "The owner is also showed in the post while not wearing that garment."

spoiler free for madoka_magica gurren_lagann and undertale in sample posts.
What I mean is when a character canonly wear that borrowed garment, there'll be a large amount of fanart of that character wearing that garment. To prevent that character flood the pool, I put in "Don't add post when character canonly wears those borrowed garments at some point of the story, unless the garment or the act of lending/borrowing it is in the focus." and expecting posts like post #1555991, post #219014, post #2229995 will be in the pool while post #938387 and post #444729 won't.

If switching this to TAG, I guess that restriction no longer needs.
