Undo tag alias: decensored -> uncensored

Posted under Tags

Yeah, I was never really happy with this alias. Of course as decensored images were more or less seen as nude_filters and we had a ban on those (both stated as banned in the ToS and users very actively hunting down and purging any such content, imho without regards to how skillful it might have been done) it fueled arguments that "we'll never have decensored content anyway, as its banned, so it might as well be aliased to uncensored". There is also the argument of such content can be found using a uncensored photoshop search, so no need to have both a decensored and uncensored tag.

Under the ToS definition decensoring is defined as the same as a nude filter, but I personally don't view them as being quite the same. From my perspective decensoring is taking something that is censored (ie nude or exposed already) and removing the censorship, while nude filter was taking a clothed character and converting it to a nude depiction. Of course the amount of editing required to obtain either could be the same, say for example decensoring away steam covering a body versus editing away a swimsuit, but in general the scales of the amount that required editing between the two weren't the same. The scales might overlap, but from my perspective generally nude filters were medium (swimsuit) to large (full outfit) scale editing of the image and decensoring was medium (censor steam) to small (genital blurring) editing of the image. Nude filters also had to frequently completely recreate the body underneath and with a lot less context of skin and body shape underneath the clothing. It meant of course a much higher chance of looking crappy, especially as lazy editors would simply just recolor the clothing a skin color and ignore the wonky shapes or shading that might cause.

Not all decensoring would imo fall under the nude_filter or potentially even the photoshop concept though. Although such cases are rare, some images have only been censored by simply inverting the colors over the genitals. A simple re-inverting of the colors would restore them and make the image appear as it would without any censorship. Of course as I said, not exactly common, but it is something that is decensoring.

Welllll I saw that a contributor had recently uploaded some decensored images. So much for that!
