I swear, Japan is the only country I know where people are keen to instate regional blocks on webpages and the like. I suppose I can understand given the mindset, but it drives me crazy.
according to his site, he says that the thumbnail-only gallery is temporary, unless I'm retarded and read it wrong.
a fair amount of Japanese artists seem to get offended by other sites posting their art even when credit is given. it's weird.
ETA: on the topic of us/him blocking countries, wouldn't one simply be able to use a proxy? no big deal, really.

Welcome to Japan, the racist capital of the world. Misplaced feeling of superiority is actually what fuels their bullet trains.
Anyway, it's any artist's right not to want their art spread on danbooru or elsewhere, no matter how stupid the reason.

That's a shame he's gotta be like that. But in the end he looses out a lot too. I frequently commission artists and sometimes they can even make a few grand from me. But now I can't access his site.

'Cause racist dicks can still press charges.
If I'm admin, I'd say let them try and file an international law suite. The price tag on that is enough to make the racist bastard go in debt for the next few generations. Alternatively, someone go and post it on pixiv, mixi, and circle.ms using Japanese proxy, and then watch him try and decide how to ban Japan all together, without banning himself out of his own FTP so he can't update...

if you remove the / at the end of the URL to his site, you can view it.
That's because his real site is http://japonica.sakura.ne.jp/ and he doesn't seem to be able to play his silly power games there.
Though there are only thumbnails there anyway, I don't know why he'd even care to ban people from viewing those.

Yeah like Danbooru has the kind of money to handle it either (it's not like Albert wasn't just talking about donations, right?). Not to mention if the suit went through the artist would obviously win, and bad things happen. I really don't see how this could possibly be a good idea.
Danbooru's has always been run with a sort of implicit understanding that artists basically want their art to be spread so more people can enjoy their work. If an artist doesn't want that for any reason, it would be pretty ridiculous to react with a "Well, sue me, I dare ya!" cause that's the polar opposite attitude.

Agreed, when I initially saw this thread I thought "ah, okay", and moved on without a second thought.
I'm flabbergasted that it's become such a major issue. Lawsuits? Seriously? God, just move on, it's not a big deal.
