Welcome back (ok so I'm a little late ;)

Hey,

I remember when you closed due to increasing bandwidth costs, declining quality etc. I hung a lot in the irc channel, and watched with interest as sagubooru promised to fill the void since he had been a danbooru mirror and had most of the content.

Well, we know how that went. He did a fantastic job on that beta flash site, but it's just not being worked on anymore. Then suddenly I heard that you're back, and invite-only, which was fantastic news. And now, you're public again and have come full circle. Fantastic! :)

Did the old content survive this phoenix-from-the-ashes period or was it purged?

That's awesome and it seems like you're right, when browsing around I've noticed that there is indeed a metric shit-ton of new stuff in every category and that all the old stuff seems to be there as well. Sweet! Though I can't help but wonder if albert specifically said that all the old data was restored?

The reason I ask is because I vaguely remember something about a database loss or purge or corruption back when the Ruby on Rails code was redone? Like loss of images or all the tags for all images or something? I am probably remembering wrong though, since everything old appears to be here. :)

Does anyone here know the final word on if everything from the past site survived?

The database contained user info, not the actual posts. Most of it was deleted, but a few inner-circle members weren't. That's why most of the old posts are marked as posted by "Anonymous", and most of the old comments too.

Haha, thanks :) Not too many people remember me, I don't think I was all that active before the crash. Some people even mistook me for a different incarnation of 0xC0FFEE :P But all my posts and comments from back then are marked "Anonymous" so I guess we'll never know.

Yes, all that was lost was the user info - well, 99% of it, anyway. Some users like c0rtana, Dr Fine Rolo, phane, memento mori, etc. had their accounts saved by albert, but all the rest of the old userbase was consigned to languish in anonymity :P

I absolutely remember you, your translation work is very appreciated. :)

About the database, thanks for clarifying. Too bad that we all lost our accounts, losing credit for everything. Still, welcome back Danbooru 2.0. ;D

See you around!
