🎉 Happy 21st Birthday to Danbooru! 🎉

Tag Alias: e=mc² -> e=mc2

If the shortcut is in place, I'm pretty damn sure that is what everyone would use. So saying all the variations are necessary isn't true at all. Long names are only unwieldy when there isn't a shortcut, I've proposed a shortcut so that argument holds no weight.

I know the formula is iconic, but I don't see why using the actual name of what the formula represents is a problem.

No, everyone would still just use e=mc2 (and then realize their mistake everytime... or not), because they don't know about the shortcut, because this doesn't come up enough to become widespread knowledge.

Because people don't know the "actual name", and e=mc2 is what would be written out in the image.

Is this a theoretical matter, by the way, or do we actually have existing posts with this equation?

Both e=mc² and e=mc2 are referring to an artist, the same artist.

I didn't mean the actual equation I just want it so that if someone puts e=mc² as the artist it will change it to e=mc2 so there isn't a split between the two formats.

In terms of importance though, I'd say the artist would significantly outweigh the equation in this case. I would have no issues forcing the equation to use something else and keep the artist with the tag (with a note in the wiki directing to the equation).

Given the equation's pointed specificity on a topic very far removed from Danbooru's area of focus, I was sort of inclined to let the artist keep it.

Reading Hazuki's response though makes me consider the possibility of pollution (where the equation might appear on a chalkboard for a "genius" Cirno post or something like that, get tagged by a less-informed user and then left as a mis-attributed artist citation).

Since this is a plausible (though still somewhat unlikely) circumstance, I suppose we should qualify the artist, and give the base tag to the equation (as is our policy for relatively general concept tags).

I would definitely leave it in its common form though, implying to a spelled out description takes an already esoteric concept for Danbooru even farther away from it's likely visual depiction.
