true crime stuff

I saw Shibi tag post #11427364 with true crime despite it depicting fictional characters cosplaying as real life murderers instead of the actual murderers themselves. True crime means real life criminal cases, specifically homicide, hence true in its name, this means fictional characters merely cosplaying as real life murderers could not be considered true crime because the characters aren't actually real murderers, only the clothing and that's it. That's why I wrote in the true crime wiki to not tag Elephant or Zero Day with it because they're fictional and did not happen in the real world.

Did Shibi tag it with true crime for the blacklist as it has the tags "Eric Harris" and "Dylan Klebold" despite it depicting fictional characters cosplaying as real life murderers? Would this mean other posts depicting characters cosplaying as real life murderers should be tagged with true crime as well despite it being disingenuous to its name for the blacklist? Should @Shibi so they can see since you directly mention them in your post. I haven't seen Zero Day and was under the impression it was actually about Columbine through reputation, perhaps Shibi didn't check the wiki and assumed similarly.

That being said if they are cosplaying the actual shooters I would be fine with it having the true crime tag since people who are searching/blacklisting it would probably be interested in seeing Columbine related stuff. True crime is basically acting as the copytag for all these people, given cosplay of Miku gets the Vocaloid tag it makes sense that Cosplay of the Colombine kids gets the true_crime tag.

Although we tag characters cosplaying as Hatsune Miku with Vocaloid, my main concern is that tagging fictional characters cosplaying as real life murderers with true_crime would be unfaithful to its name as "true" refers to real homicide cases, that's why I didn't initially tag post #11427364 with true_crime but I understand these arguments.

Same here. I probably just saw the natural selection shirt and thought "must've missed my blacklist".

I get the concern with it not being a *true depiction* of a killer if it's cosplay but I, personally, would still want it to be tagged so that people can blacklist it.

I'm not well versed in this topic so that's all I'll add. Sorry for the inconvenience.

True Crime is the name of the topic or "fandom", but it doesn't mean every image has to be "true" in every sense of the word one might interpret it as.
Think about it like this: this post (post #11458737) that you tagged "true_crime" doesn't show a crime being commited, but the topic is still true crime.
To resolve this and the wiki, the wiki should probably say:

Posts depicting real life murderers, including attempted murderers and victims of murder cases, or references to them

Because it depicts Adam Lanza, the person himself who was a real life murderer, that's why it's tagged with true_crime

I understand that, of course. All I mean to say is that you can't just overly focus on whether something is "true" here in the same way you can't overly focus on any other part of the tag name alone, like "crime".
True crime is a topic. The image in your OP refers to the topic. It should get the tag then, right?

I'll put in my two cents as someone who tries to maintain the mentioned similar tag, k-pop.

If I was looking to see (and in opposite situations, blacklist) images referring to kpop songs or idols I'd want to see cosplays and direct mentions of them (post #11078404, post #9632555). These Alien Stage characters are fictional and are not "true depictions" of any real person but I like these being in the tag because they reference/cosplay things I like. post #11470913 doesn't include a cosplay or audible music but it's photo-referenced from Haruna.

Yeah that's fair enough.
