Can anyone please go and fix this users wiki edits?

Posted under General

User AtagoTakaoAzuma went and put the Chinese names in front of the Japanese names in hundreds of wiki pages. I would do it myself but I have carpal tunnel and just doing Page 161 made my wrists start to flare up.

I will make it public record that I DM'd Atago about this at the end of last year. I haven't checked in since to see whether they stopped doing this, but my initial impressions back in December and January seemed to indicate that they had stopped doing this.

Have they returned to doing this, or are you talking about the general issue of having to switch around the Other Names? Because, yeah, the latter is going to be a pain...

Incidentally, at around the same time, they also had an issue of forgetting deleted posts when manually renaming tags, and not knowing how to change tag categories, but I have no idea if someone DM'd them about that. The latter seems to still be a problem, so likely not...

I perused their recent edits, and it doesn’t seem like they’ve resumed doing that.

It is unfortunately the latter. It does seem they stopped putting Chinese names in front of the Japanese names but their older edits still remain. If left uncorrected it could result in misinformation for users that use that part of the wiki's in order to search for information regarding uploads on Japanese search engines or Japanese Wikipedia.

Are all of his edits to OtherNames Chinese names being put further up when they shouldn't be on Japanese media specifically, or are there correct edits mixed in there too? Edits like that to English language media as well? If there are Chinese/English ones, would anyone here know enough about Chinese media to be able to pick those Chinese language medias out without too much trouble?

I ask because this seems like a good use case for the API. Go through each edit of his, ignoring those in a (possibly short) list of legitimate Chinese language wikis, then rearranging the order of others so the Japanese one is in front. We can tell which ones are Chinese or Japanese just by checking the characters used. If no one minds if it takes a while (and it seems longstanding so I imagine not) I would take a crack at that given a list of Chinese wikis to ignore.

I've only seen 2 pages so far, both of which are full of JoJo tags. There are 161 pages of wiki edits and based on his 1 negative feedback and the messages I feel safe in assuming that the majority of those pages are filled with OtherNames wiki edits that contain the Chinese copyright names in front of the Japanese ones for Japanese copyrights.

Again, I would do it myself but I have carpal tunnel and doing at least 100 pages of similar edits would just destroy my wrists.

Even if it's the majority, I don't feel comfortable potentially messing up 100s of OtherName orders in the opposite direction. Just to make what I'm saying clear I think we could do this with some software that changes all of the names around to be Japanese first, but without a list of wiki pages to ignore it's not feasible, because there's no human checking involved, and any English or Chinese media would have the Japanese name put at the start, which is also incorrect.

I would go through and note any like that (I had a look maybe 10 pages in, and I did see some English wiki pages, but not characters or copyrights), however I might have blown by a bunch of Chinese ones not being able to tell them apart from Japanese ones. Some of those wiki pages are pretty sparse as well so without having knowledge of Chinese media it's a real slog having to google each character/copyright to figure out country of origin.

When I say "Go through each edit of his [...]" I'm just saying how we could do it with software. I'm not saying you should do it. I don't even have carpal tunnel and I don't want to do it (not manually, at least).

I would feel bad if someone had to go out of their way to develop software to fix this. My initial post was more of a "beacon" asking others to volunteer to do the lengthy process of going through and fixings the 161 pages of OtherName edits. I suppose I'll just have to do this one page at a time every day/hour over a long period of time.

That user actually has been putting the Chinese names ahead of the Japanese names as recently as a few days ago. Check the Other Names edits made on April 15.

If possible, developing software would be best imo. It may sound inconvenient, but it would make any future efforts to fix the Other Names much easier. If you're not able to edit these quickly, there's a good chance you will be outpaced. Being able to automate at least some of the process will speed things up in the long run and help prevent relapses.

Okay yeah but

There's this thing called "banning the user". We shouldn't have to worry about being "outpaced" by some idiot making incorrect edits. It might still be useful for mass-reverting after the fact, but keeping up with someone shouldn't be the primary concern.

Reminder that you can't use the 'diff' function to compare the position of Other Names in a wiki because it puts all new Other Names at front. Using one of those wikis, Sakazuki (One Piece), as an example, compare the diff with the respective versions. That is to say, it doesn't seem like they've been doing it. Can you point to a specific example?

I checked again and all of the examples do have the Japanese name as the first Other Name when looking at the previous versions without using the "diff" function. I didn't know "diff" moved all the new ones to the front. False alarm. AtagoTakaoAzuma is innocent.

shouldn't we just tell him to fix it himself?

That would be the fair option but I don't have any authority that would incentivize such a request.

I agree software would be the easiest way to fix this but I don't know how to make such software nor do I know any who can.

Is it supposed to be just detect Japanese text, Chinese text and English text then reorder them in that order for the entire wiki? Sounds doable, though a site-wide implementation could also be more beneficial I think.

I'll just use this as a reminder that, with how the 'diff' function is implemented right now, you literally cannot do a 'diff' comparison between wiki versions if the only thing that was changed was the position of the Other Names. In a situation like that, the only way to compare is by opening the version pages and comparing manually.

CrossbowArcanePlus already offered to do this. They just need to know which wikis are for Chinese copyrights, characters, etc. so they can be skipped over. You don't need to design anything yourself.

I disagree since people put ship names, birthday tags, or nicknames/abbreviations in other name.

A Chinese character name should have priority over those other ones imo so autosort isn't helpful. I also question how it would handle character and copytags with stylized English titles (or even Chinese copyrights for that matter.)

Did they offer to make such software? They way I interpreted their comments are that they suggested a custom software would be easier not them offering to make said software. If they are offering to make such software I can tell them what's Japanese and what's Chinese.
