Tag Suggestion: sfx_request

Posted under General

I'm concerned that such a tag will easily become much abused and quickly become useless with respect to your intent. Unfortunately, only someone who can translate the sfx in the first place is qualified to decide if it is worth translating or not.

+1 for T5J8F8's suggestion.

I agree with Log (and Sol). Of course "actual" translations are more important than sound effect translations.

Yet there are cases when you just ache to know the meaning of every single kana... R0d3n7z, do you have a better idea to solve the problem? Please do not mention "comments" in your answer.

would partially_translated be coupled with sfx_request

[ This would be logical usage, yes. (Edit: retracted. see Log's post below.) ]

But to elaborate my earlier point, the trouble with a tag like sfx_request is that, similar to translation_request, once overused, it becomes nigh impossible to sift through and find the meaningful ones to tackle.

There was some discussion about possible enhancements translation_requests to in forum #10038. The goal there was to have some ordering of posts according to some notion of need/demand/difficulty, where users can "vote up" posts that they want translated, translators can mark down those not worth translating, or escalate difficult translations. The same should apply for sfx. That discussion didn't really result in anything, but if there is interest, it might be worth reviving in light of current development of Danbooru 2.

If this were to go through, would partially_translated be coupled with sfx_request (patent pending) to images where major effects have been translated but viewers are still curious about smaller effects?

*facepalm* No, go read the other thread. Translation degree tags only refer to dialogue progress. You purge partially translated when you finish translating all dialogue so why would sfx request suddenly make it so all the dialogue isn't translated? sfx request will be it's own thing, it does not effect real translation status or progress and shouldn't.

Consensus in forum #33891, and a couple threads previous to it iirc, was that sfx translations are nice and all but do not impact changing translation_request -> translated.

Right, this. SFX translation is not a prerequisite for translated, though it's nice.

I'm not against sfx_request itself, but 1) I agree it will quickly become useless and 2) it shouldn't implicate any of the translation tags, not even partially_translated. It'd have to stand alone.
