Vex (League of Legends) and Furry tag

Posted under General

I noticed some of Vex's (LOL) gallery is tagged with furry, and it's pretty inconsistent. I was wondering if she's tagged as such purely because of her nose? And maybe ears but other lady yordles generally aren't tagged as furry. She has smooth skin and no fur outside of her ears, and she's not an anthropomorphic animal to the best of my knowledge. So I was wondering what the general ruling on this is, and if the furry tag should be removed from most of her art?

Another example of the tagging being confusing to me is post #10473042 "interspecies + furry with non-furry). Poppy and Vex are both yordles with smooth skin, so they're the same species and I don't think ether is a furry.

With the ears and the nose, I'm of the opinion she's enough for furry. You'd be hard-pressed to call post #7294047 anything else.

She appears to have more of a hair visual there than usual, but would you call say post #9951747 , post #10111328 , or post #8867773 furry? Is furry a tag that applies purely because of a combination of nose and ears? I feel furry should have more of an animal emphasis in general or at least fur, but maybe that's only me. So then does all of her art get tagged as furry though? Also in theory Yordle x Yordle shouldn't be interspecies, but I suppose that's a consequence of linked tagging with furry x non-furry.

I don't think all of her art is furry, a lot of it depicts her nose as more humanoid with just a darker tip. Some of it definitely is, though, it all comes down to how the specific artist depicts her. post #8671874, post #8924789, post #8867773 are very furry with none of the humanoid facial features of the other two you linked, which I wouldn't tag as furry.

Lot of explicitly furry characters get drawn similarly without emphasizing the fur, so that's not really a good argument.

It doesn't help that some other Yordles like Teemo are straight-up furries with none of the ambiguity. I don't go here but it seems like a very inconsistent species.

You make a good point that there's furries without fur emphasis, though they're still usually characters with fur even if it isn't emphasized. I think Vex normally doesn't have fur unless an artist decides to draw her depicted with fur. I think she normally just has grey skin, like Raven from animated Teen Titans. Though I could be wrong and she has grey hair, which would amusingly be a surprise to me after investing 30+ hours into her back when I played League. Part of that is what you said with Yordles being very inconsistent, different elements of their art direction have changed over the years, and their history throughout League has just been a whole mess, with meglings and all of that.

One could say the males are more furry emphasized with Gnar, Teemo, Rumble, but then there's Corki.

I normally think of furry as being more animal antho associated so at least Vex just being "vague fantasy race of Yordle" doesn't come across as furry to me, like the examples you said are furry to you are something I don't see as furry, but it seems the way I look at it isn't very common and I never knew that. I never knew people look at Vex and think "that's a furry", so this has been a learning experience for me, thanks.

I definitely think there's a grey area/fine line between colored skin and body fur when these types of characters with animal ears and nose but not much other animal features arises. Hell, I often see people tag Noelle Holiday as colored skin and I remember people were tagging default Wolfychu as pale skin until I corrected it to white fur (this one hasn't come up as an issue since then, though).

And then you have the other group of people who keep trying to tag Gardevoir as furry with even less basis than Vex, so as you can imagine furry can be somewhat of a tricky category at times, haha.

Haha yeah it's interesting how complex the tagging situation around furry can be, I've been learning more about the nuances recently and there's definitely some unique specifics with it.
