What is Acceptable 3D?

Posted under General

This is probably just me being overly cautious talking, but so...Infinity Nikki has these album covers always released for its soundtrack (for example: asset #40757814).

Now generally speaking: I don't like uploading 3D for these kinds of things. Mostly because I feel like it's one step away from flatout game screenshot, and what little 3D I upload are like key visuals for example (post #8589493). Also, 3D is generally unpopular with approvers, and while I do have the contributor role now compared to when I first seriously attempted uploading 3D, I don't like the idea of bypassing queue with artwork I normally struggle to like anyway, even though I know we have 3D Mario renders, for example.

So just to help me gauge things...What is considered acceptable 3D to y'all? What is off-topic? Are these album covers acceptable to upload, or should they just be left alone?

I was initially considerably adverse to uploading any kind of 3D but then I realised just how much 3D NSFW content is uploaded onto the site of Western copyrights that's essentially borderline off-topic (particularly by the same 4-ish people but I digress) and that helped temper myself a bit in deciding what line I personally find acceptable for SFW, which can be seen through user:WRS 3d wuthering_waves. There's also cases of mixed media which also end up being fine.

To me, as long as it's good enough and looks interesting, I'll do it, with heavy bias for official art. This includes animators who use models released from official sources and actually animate well, like no tables. That's part of the point of Contributor, gauging the line where you deem acceptable that also aligns with the site's goals and uploading things that normally might not catch the attention of any approver but is still acceptable enough that it's not flaggable.

I have no problem with that album cover, it's on the lines of something like post #7575998 which is 3D. If you were to have an outfit showcase that were well animated (post #9455114 is an outfit showcase I've uploaded), this too is fine. Ultimately I can only say the line is a vague "is it good enough?" and the existing posts that stay active is a decent measure of what is. Case by case basis kind of thing.

Yep, and I think I forgot about that when it comes to 3D specifically. I still don't think I'll go too crazy with 3D anytime soon, but since what I do like I feel generally aligns with the site's archival goals, I think I'll aim to be a little less cautious with 3D. After all, all this art deserves to be preserved too!

Aka uploading in general lol. Thanks again.

It slipped my mind, but I'm having a similar debate in my head whether to upload most of the Senran Kagura New Link PVs, since a lot of them are mostly showcases of the Live2D models and gameplay footage of the 3D models performing their special attacks (though a couple do have some unique content in addition to that).
