I saw one piece of Awaria fanart today and remembered it existed. The same guy made both games and Helltaker got HUGE so I don't see why Awaria is barely talked about or drawn.
Is it because...
Awaria's sci-fi with fantasy elements, and that's less popular than fantasy?
Red and black and white women in suits, and gold and white military angels, are appealing colour schemes and visual identities with excellent contrast and detail, while Awaria's characters are contrastless blobs of green or purple?
Helltaker's Demon and Angel women are more erotically appealing than Awaria's Danny Phantom OCs? I shouldn't call them that, Danny Phantom ghosts are easier to visually parse because they're usually not just green on green on green.
Mouthwashing already did "Sad woman in a sad dystopian sci-fi setting, corporations suck, someone dies aboard a shitty unsafe space station, and someone drinks shitty mouthwash for its alcohol content"?
Helltaker's girls had a variety of contrasting personalities and archetypes while Awaria ghosts blend together visually and mentally?
Awaria specifies exactly who the protagonist is and who each Ghost is to the protagonist and each other and what happened to make them all like this while Helltaker leaves more room for interpretation and reinvention?
Helltaker's protagonist is more aspirational and visually unique and invites men to see themselves as him while Awaria's protagonist is just a cute girl in a world full of them?
Awaria's gameplay is harder and "fix shit to keep shit running and dodge attacks" is less immediately understandable and viscerally instinctively desirable than "get to the girl"?
Helltaker invites you to imagine these fun sexy clashing characters chaotically living together in a world where heaven and hell and magic exist while Awaria limits itself to just this tiny pocket of a miserable depressing universe where capitalism ruined life and pointless inevitable death corrupts you into an amnesiac asshole ghost resulting in a nihilistic universe that's not fun to think about?
Awaria wasn't free and Helltaker was?
Helltaker's developer was silent for too long before making Awaria?
Or some other reason I can't think of?
Also after writing this I googled Awaria to remind myself of details about the game and remembered you're working in haunted maintenance tunnels not a space station. Damn, details about this game just slip from the mind like rainwater on a windshield.
