Butterfly_net

I wouldn't be either, but what to call it? Catching net? I assume the time net thing is a purely one-off creation specific to the show? There are a couple more pics with similar style nets not from that show, plus I'm sure some could be found under precure at least, with that hokey or whatever net.

Yes but we were saying (or at least both thinking) that even though they're both nets they share no relationship other than how the materials are woven. You don't use a vollyball net for even remotely similar applications as a butterfly net.

I understood that much from Hazuki's post.

What I was thinking is that they all have a distinct visual characteristic (materials woven in a grid pattern) and that's why the implication makes sense.

Like chain, for instance. It has different applications as well (jewelery, bondage, etch.) but it's still a chain no matter how you look at it.

It's true, but I'm not convinced it's a useful piece of information. So you have two completely different things made of a conceptually similar material... and? I can't discern any useful relationship between them arising from that. It's not like we tag cotton or wool either.

I can see the benefit of having functional groups, such as the "catching net" or however you'd call it to be able to query images where you're not sure about the exact type of the net, such as the above fishing-net-that-looks-just-like-butterfly-nets-elsewhere, but you have the general idea what it's used for. But what would be the circumstances where you'd be interested in either butterfly nets or volleyball nets? I'm just not seeing that. *Maybe* when someone is entangled in the volleyball net, but then you're really tagging caught_in_net or trapped or somesuch.

I'm not sure how I completely missed this thread over the past few days, but I for the most part agree with Hazuki. Out of the images tagged net, the only one I'd have used net for would be post #363589. Though for me, when I see "net" I think more in line with a throw/cast net.

Looking on wikipedia they listed that the handled type for fishing is called a "hand net." I was thinking that we could likely take that and define it to qualify for any of handled nets used for catching, or perhaps call them a "handled net." Just tossing out ideas, not sure if they're good or not. I'd be willing to support just butterfly_net as well, since the vast majority will end up used for catching bugs.
