tagme should be used if the series, characters, or artist aren't tagged, but you should also apply it to images that have few tags on them so someone with time and inclination can go add more tags.

It should also be noted that tagme shouldn't be used as a substitute for at least some effort in tagging an image. Slapping a single descriptive tag and tagme on an image is just plain lazy. As the community continues to grow these images will quickly get buried in an avalanche of new images and the possibility exists that they will never be properly tagged. If these images are never viewed due to poor or nonexistent tags, what is the point of them being here?
Can I just ask. If I find an image with tagme and I add more then say 2-3 tags, I take it I'm then ok to remove 'tagme'?
I literally just did a Dokuro image and tagged it as much as I could without getting too silly (I hope) and removed the tagme tag as it seemed a bit redundant by then.
Should I see about going though the tagme gallery and removing tagme from any images with more than a couple of tags already?

So long as the series and character are not known, I'd probably leave the tag there. It's often hard to tell if it's an original character or not without knowing the artist. If they are known, then It's probably ok to delete them.
Remember, it's for things that are missing an artist, character, or series with a secondary purpose of encouraging some tags on something undertagged. I actually didn't have the confidence to remove that tag on most of the "tagme" images because I don't actually know what they are, although now that I've had its meaning so well clarified above, I think I can check for that much at least.
Sometimes tagme is there for a specific reason though, in which case the uploader should leave a comment as to why they put tagme on it (such as in post #154986, I just added an explanation why I put it on there originally).
At least, that's how I use it sometimes. Perhaps there should be a different tag for something like that ("who?" :D) but I think this works well enough as a catch-all "this image isn't tagged completely" tag.
EDIT: Err, what uncreative said. :D

That's my main problem. I'll do what research I can to track down a character, but often I either can't find it, or it's original but the artist doesn't indicate as such.
If I'm relatively confident it's original, I won't use 'tagme'. If I have no idea, then I'll use it.
What about images such as:
It has character names, series and source given.
I'd be of the mindset it's ok to remove tagme and possibly add a few on hair colour, eye colour, etc.. if needed for images like this.

What about using 2 different tags?one meaning "image need series, characters info (or 'original)"
=> the indented purpose for 'tagme'?another for "image would benefit from more tags on details" (clothing, hair/eyes color...).
=> a tag like 'tagmore' for example
That would be a nifty idea I suppose, but if they can put in 'tagmore' why can't they tag it themselves (not trying to sound too mean here)? I just don't see why someone uploading an image/ editing a tagme with character details or such not adding a few extras like 'bra' 'lingerie' and so on and so forth.
I was always under the impression that if I saw an image that would benift from a tag but it didn't have it (i.e. they had a sword but no sword tag), then to add the tag anyways.

First, please use post #xxxx syntax (i.e. post #155158) when linking images.
As that for image, it does not need tagme, I've removed it.

Eh... not necessary. Nobody is going to agree on what would satisfy 'tagmore'. It's just tag bloat to include it.

The usage for tagmore would be something specific, possibly fanart that you can't place or don't know the character's name of or something like that. It definitely wouldn't make sense to do it with an image if there's just a few obvious tags to add.
Either way I think tagme+comment is fine for that, and it'd be all but impossible to go through all the "tagmes" to find the "tagmores" anyway.
