Duplicate check

I'm not sure myself. post #1342921 was uploaded first and the image is exactly the same but post #1720551 has the EXIF data intact so I think it should still be the parent.
If we used duplicate to mean any inferior version regardless of upload order it would be clear, but since we only use it for later uploads I guess the post tagged as duplicate should be the parent?

If post #1720551 has the original DA file, then it should be the parent. However, since duplicate is only for posts of identical or inferior quality that were uploaded after an identical/superior version, neither should be tagged with it as the MD5 mismatch was uploaded first.

That being said, I'm pretty sure if I remove the tags and change the parenting then a bot will end up reverting the changes, so I'm not sure what to do.

Yes, just tested. So we're stuck with enforced wrong parenting.

Edit: Pinged NNT on Discord about this.

When sorting out parenting, the bot only considers the presence of md5 mismatch if the post having that tag is deleted, otherwise it ignores the tag. The reason being that if there's a md5 mismatch pixel-perfect active dupe on site, then either the issue lies on the source site, and we can't do anything about that (e.g., that one time pixiv re-encoded their entire collection of JPGs and millions of our posts technically became md5 mismatches), or it's a bad source/sample, and then the post should be deleted and the priority of parenting sorts itself out without relying on the tag.

For this specific case, it appears that post #1342921 was originally uploaded without source, and then the DeviantArt source was only added afterwards. Given DeviantArt's history of serving weird samples instead of the original file, and given that the metadata for the first pic is vastly smaller than for the second pic, I'm gonna assume post #1342921 is a "sample" (in the sense that it's not the original file) downloaded manually, so I'll delete it. The bot should pick up that and update the parenting next time it does a full site scan (which happens once a day).

Whats with this trend of late of reuploading the exact same artworks from pixiv that were uploaded sometimes hours or minutes ago from twitter anyway while the subject lf duplicates is coming up. Like is it really necessary if its the exact same verbatim art but just the source changed kind of apparently the exact same art needs another upload? Its especially noticeable with Blue Archive stuff this summer and extremely redundant IMO.

They aren’t the exact same images, nobody is stupid enough to 1up a pixel-perfect duplicate. Pixiv tends to have less compressed images, png images, and/or higher filesize images that are preferable to their inferior twitter versions.

Are you seriously still doing this?

I've literally been asking myself the same question of some of these uploaders continuing to reload old/same images. Its not the only tag its happening with but its by far the most blatant so the best example

Like are people going to tell me these arent the exact same images pointing to the exact same pixiv source at https://www.pixiv.net/artworks/110354169
Uploaded 2 hours apart because reasons? Come on lol

They're not the same image, if they were the site wouldn't have even allowed the second one to be uploaded.

You were already banned for this, stop. Bringing your whining into the forums after being mod checked once already is only going to earn you another, longer ban. Hopefully a permanent one.

A small part of the image was revisioned.

Thank you for at least confirming instead of just making threats. Still seems redundant to me though and like this site is hastening its conversion into a blue archive centric image site but whatever

I literally told you how to do it in comment #2332338 which of course you either ignored completely or trying to play dumb.

Why not upload content you want to see? The best thing you can do about it is share the content you want to be seen.
