Tag discussion: bun

Posted under General

I see a quite a few tags relating to bun hairstyles, and a few might be redundant, so I decided to bring them up for discussion.

bun - Has wiki entry stating it should be used for hairstyles.
buns - Seems to be rarely used.
hair bun - Redundant with "bun".
hair buns - Redudant, mostly with "double buns" since the plural seems to imply more than one though there may be "single bun" images in there.
double buns - Specific in that it's two buns and is the most used out of these tags. I noticed "odango" is aliased to bun, even though it's usually used to refer to double buns (like Usagi's hairstyle in Sailor Moon)

I was thinking that buns, hair_bun, hair_buns (alias)-> bun, and then double_buns (implication)-> bun (making it a catch-all for bun hairstyles). Any thoughts on this?

Sounds alright, but what about buns as in the food?

I think it might make a little more sense to use hair_bun as the primary tag. Also I thought double_buns already had an implication to bun, guess I was wrong.

Does the "odango" hairstyle specifically have to be double buns? I noticed that there were a few images of completely round buns that didn't come in pairs. If possible I think freeing that from an alias would be nice, since it is somewhat a unique style of hair bun. That'd require giving it an implication to the right tags of course.

Also should bun_cover have a implication to bun (or hair_bun)?

I think an alias would be cleaner, and like EB says, bun(s) doesn't seem necessary as a separate tag. On the other hand if we're aliasing, there's no real reason we can't use bun(s) then. And while hair_bun sounds fine to me (and I sided with it in the earlier thread), double_hair_buns feels odd for some reason.
