Request: a setting to disable showing tags within permalink

Posted under General

Yeah, every time I link a danbooru page, I just start highlighting from the end of the id # to the start, excluding the tags. It's just seemed like a natural solution... I can see how the tags might be an issue if this is being automated somehow, but if you're just linking someone a page on the fly, it doesn't take any longer.

Those tags are stupid and idiotic. For one thing, they break browser's navigation, fooling it into thinking it hit a new page each time it gets redirected. Most notably, that comes up when you edit tags. To make things worse, it doesn't *always* happen, depending on the precise alphabetical sorting of the existing and changed tags. So you can't even rely on muscle memory.

Why do have that junk at all? It serves no purpose except annoying people. Notice how no-one said "no, because I like them there", it's all "U SO LAZY Y U NOT REMOVE IT LOL". If something serves no purpose and has to be turned off each time, the natural solution would be to remove it permanently, don't you think?

I think it's there for the benefit of search engines. Because they give more weight to keywords that are part of the URL, or something. Moe.imouto.org's version of danbooru adds a fake "hentai" tag to rating:e posts, for the same reason.

But... if there's two or three different links to each post, any spiders will be crawling a lot of redundant pages. They might reach less of the site because of that.

(There are multiple links because: Thumbnails on the comments page and post #xxx links don't include the tags, and tags can change.)

I don't know why you have to be so anal about everything (not meant in an insulting way lul). The reason we've said as such is because it's easy to take care of on your own rather than changing how danbooru functions. It's really silly and pointless to even be debating it. If they're there, they must be for a reason - at least I'd hope so.

It'd be pretty easy to only include the tags in the urls when Googlebot is spidering the site, and leave them out when a person is browsing. Then again, that could backfire if Google thinks the site is trying to game the system by serving Google different content.

No, we don't.

This is something that could probably be taken care of pretty easily with a bookmarklet, rather than needing to change the operation of the site.

No, because you can't make the site not redirect you with a bookmarklet. And redirects are what causes the issues I described. I used to have a greasemonkey script to kill the junk in the links from the post listing (which was the only place that added them), but the it was expanded to also redirect on tag edits. And that you can't fix client-side.

Sigh, no. Your face sucks and no-one loves you. It's not easy, as reading my post would've revealed, and clearly you're not familiar with the notion of bugs and misfeatures if you suggest that everything ever is well-founded and reasonable.

Regardless of Googlebot, I like them because whenever someone pastes a Danbooru link I have some clue about what I'm about to view. In fact people who strip it out annoy me because when I click their link I have to wonder if I'm about to get a huge screen of dick in my face.

It's hard to highlight and backspace? I was not aware.

No, it's hard to read with comprehension, especially for you. I'm not going to write the same thing thrice.

You don't even know me yet you're quick the the personal insults, it's kind of cute. I don't mind but I'd expect a mod to be capable of sensible discussion without getting his panties in a bunch so easily.

I read it, I comprehended it (oh god who knew I was capable), and I still think it's a poor excuse. (・ω・)

It probably doesn't matter at this point, anyway, since albert already said he likes it.
