just tested it again with post #143881 and post #143882, 82 being 81's child, but 81 doesn't show as a parent with green border, and there is no child link on top of 81. But you can still see both if you search with tag parent:143881

I believe it's fixed now.
Albert, it something still weird with this?
If you check http://miezaru.donmai.us/post?tags=ayato+signum&commit=Search you can see a bunch of Signum images done by the artist ayato. He did a number of variations so I made the first the parent of the rest. From the children, it has the message and links you to all the variations, and only one shows up in the main post listing, so I know the parenting worked.
Unfortunately theres no border around the first one (post #150040) to indicate it has children and the message up top doesn't show.
Sorry for reviving such an old thread but was this ever fixed?
Seems like I hit the same problem on my own installation.
The guess it's that parents aren't being set properly when they are done through the index (edit mode) and the special tag parent:#id
I've opened a trac ticket before finding this thread.
