Tag Suggestion: Auto-"wallpaper"

Posted under General

Well, the auto-res thing was brought up, but this may be a bit more set-in-stone, given the handful of resolutions generally accepted as wallpapers: 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1920x1200, maybe even 480x272 (do we even have PSP wall[paper]s here?). So, could this be implemented, with or without much hassle (though pref. without)?

If you're looking for wallpapers, you'd usually want a specific resolution though. So a generic "wallpaper" tag for all conceivable screen resolutions together would be rather useless. It doesn't tell you anything new about the pic, and it doesn't allow you to make better searches if you want a new wallpaper.

Something more useful would be the capability to search for a specific aspect ratio, such as "aspect:4/3" or "aspect:5/4" or "aspect:16/10" or "aspect:16/9" to cover the ratios you'd need for a wallpaper if you don't need the exact resolution. However this would probably require an additional row in the database, so it's up to albert if he wants to implement something like this.

Either way, I think the wallpaper tag is redundant. It conveys no useful information that isn't easily searchable otherwise. On the other hand, a different wallpaper tag (e.g. "wallpaper_(4:3)") for each aspect ratio might come in handy if a meta-tag for the ratio isn't easy to implement.

On a semi related note.. It looks like the Wiki entry was automatically modified 13 days ago to take account of the new syntax (which broke all the links until they were helpfully corrected by thatdog), however that edit is credited to me and I know I didn't do it. I assume it is just because I was the last person who edited the entry, but it is a bit confusing.

I think this would really useful. Right now, I'm searching for images that're >1024 width, and wider than they are high [read: landscape, not portrait]; I'm having immense difficulty narrowing down my results without limiting them to exact wallpaper dimensions.

The proposed aspect tag would be a lifesaver.
