Pokemon-style Kyouko is especially awesome.

It's simple. Look at the colors and take a guess.

Homura = Darkness/Steel
Mami = Electric
Kyouko = Fire
Sayaka = Ice/Water
Madoka = Random group as per the Champion's shtick

Also Sayaka's pokemon have annoying healing abilities while Kyouko's may or may not have something to do with apples

I can see Kyouko having a Snorlax and/or Munchlax.

The champion doesn't always have a random group. Gen 2 and 3 were type specific or at least had a theme (Dragon and Mineral/Water respectively). Considering Madoka's personality, Normal or random seem fitting.

Also, Dark and Steel is very appropriate for Homura. Dark attacks are cheap/pragmatic and Steel attacks are metal/machinery, i.e. the guns and explosives she uses.

They seem to be moving towards having a balanced team, if Gens 4 and 5 are anything to bite at.
