This could be clever, actually. Isnt the legend of the ninetails (note: Ran does have nine tails~) about said ninetails being a tricker, a master of disguise, etc?
Well, no matter what, her true form is that of a fox. If you guys love her, then you should be ok with that, right?
There was a story about a Yuki-onna who put on a disguise as a beautiful lady. She fall in love and married a guy who swore his love is true and eternal etc. One day, as a joke she said " Will you still love me if I'm a youkai?" He replied: "Of course dear. Even if you're ugly, old, evil I'll love you forever."
She then showed him her true form, a Yuki-onna whose skin is pale, eyes are dead and lips are purple. The guy screamed and ran away. He hurt the youkai's feeling deeply, because in the end all he cared was her faked beauty.
So tell me danbooru, do you love your Touhou, or do you love the hot ladies drawn by good artists?

I'd be more worried if one is in real love with fictional characters.

Love is about the feelings. It's the same as loving someone even though she/he lives in a different country and you'll never meet each others. If you have time worrying about something that trivial, worry about world peace or something.

Actually, kind of inclined to agee with unicode on this one. At least with the different country example, you can meet, and people have done it. Falling in love with a fictional character strikes me as being part of being unable to separate fiction and reality clearly. That's not exactly healthy.

While physical beauty shouldn't be everything it does have its role in any relationship. The real question is just how likely are you to still be there when the person's looks start to fade? No matter how attractive someone may me, in 20 or 30 years, their looks will fade out at some point.
Also beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Don't believe me? If you were a furry this is what Amaterasu from Okami would look like all the time.

Throwing time into a discussion of something as static as Touhou and/or 2D art is kinda...odd. Hundreds of years from now, they could be drawing the same characters the same way.
Regardless, remember that while their looks are "fading," so are yours...and, generally, your tastes tend to change along with them. But there are outliers, of course.

I had ForteGVN's comment going through my mind when I made that comment ie. I was referencing real life rather than Touhou/anime.

In other words being willing to to settle for what you can get instead of what you want. :P Well at least by that point the person would have (hopefully) matured a little in attitude, and not judge by surface appearance.

As much as I like well drawn, moe girls, I'd prefer canon. It just feels more authentic to me to have a character that can strike terror in one's heart rather than pose with a baby-face.

This.
It's why I like characters like Koishi and Yuyuko so much. Sure, the artists can make them look good, but their personalities and past intrigue me.

I liked this picture, but, about Ran true form, I have understood that the kyuubi (like the nekomata and some other youkai) not only emulate the human figure, but they can also become humans, either to redeem himself with a favor to someone or because they fell in love with a human, in any case this always ended bad.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, and sorry for the crappy english.

See the thing is, Touhou canon is neither about moe girls nor it is about girls who strike terror in your heart in every occasions.
So, here's a thought: is Chen the same? Like, is she actually an anthropomorphic nekomata wearing a skinsuit? What about Yukari? What is SHE, actually?

Who knows, anyway? She might look like post #955531, or something like that. We won't and wouldn't like to know.
