I thought this seemed really familiar...now I remember! This exact same scenario happened in the Frog and Toad books! Frog and Toad both wanted to surprise each other by raking up their leaves, so they both go out to each other's house... Then that means that a strong wind will blow and scatter the leaves so they'll end up doing their own leaves anyways, thinking that the other will be so surprised when they see the leaves all raked.

I had forgotten about those books entirely until I read this comment. Now I can remember this one vividly.
