Wasn't it confirmed that Madoka(in one of the first time lines) used her wish to save some cat? Which is the cat in the OP. Kinda dissapointed IMO. I would have liked it to stay a mystery. Alot of funny crack theories were stuff like "The cat is gonna save everyone!" and stuff.
