Yes there is, because it was specifically about the form of the post, not its contents. You might've noticed I don't usually quote when replying immediately

That's quite a non-sequitur. Your post would have been understood just as well without the quote, unlike this one.

Anyway, perhaps the "respond" button should be renamed to "Quote", to make it clear that you don't have to use it whenever you want to respond to someone. I know you know the difference, but there are users that don't.
