YES! Life of Maid-chan wasn't a joke after all! Colonel Aki's work looks as great as ever! I do hope he doesn't forget about the original Life of Maid.

She can see herself in a mirror? What? Or is this not traditional vampirism?

With the great magician Patchouli it is more than likely that it is a special mirror.

Vampires can see their own reflection.

If the mirror is not backed by silver, then yes.

I interpreted MezzoDragon's comment as, "A vampire can see her or his own reflection, while it remains invisible to humans." Never heard such a statement before, though.

As regards silver (still in use to some lesser extent) and other mirror materials, see also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirror#History and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirror#Types_of_Glass_Mirror .

Note that von Liebig invented the silvered-glass mirror in 1835. "Dracula" by Stoker, an important source of vampire lore to many, was published in 1897, probably at a time when silvered-glass mirrors had become quite commonplace. Does anyone remember what that book has to say about mirrors?
