I had to post it, this incorporates everything that is awesome and fucked up about Touhou. God damn that beautiful artistic bastard that thought this up.
... Is it wrong to want to pet and cuddle Yamame's little babies? And I love the look of love Yamame has for this beautiful moment, as well.

Some spiders do that, and plenty of insects do, as well. Spiders generally will die off every year in the winter, so they can't provide for their young except by preserving food and laying their eggs within said food. I think they generally just paralyze their prey, wrap it in silk, then lay the eggs before completely bundling their eggs and the little spiderling's food up completely, normally, though. They don't generally lay them in LIVE prey.

Spiders don't have teeths/jaws to chew through. So I highly doubt that there's any spider species that does this. There is however a Japanese myth considering a demon Spider that lays it eggs inside of you and they, well, crawl out of your various openings. Basically the equivalent to the America myth of spiders laying their eggs in those giant hairdos of the... 60s/70s/80s (?).

Huh, guess that makes more sense. Hadn't known of that myth before, but it seems to fit in this case.

To be honest, I'm not sure if the Japanese demon spider I mention is an actual myth. As I can't find anything on it besides the Jorogumo and Tsuchigumo which are rather unrelated besides being spiders. Though I did read it here: http://www.mangafox.com/manga/the_horror_mansion/v01/c002/3.html Which I seemed to have recalled a bit wrong.
But fears of creepie-crawlies, in this case spiders, seem to be a commonly natural and easily thought from human fear. Who knew?

I think that's something other insects (wasps, mostly) do TO spiders...

Yup. That's how many, many species of wasps spend their larval stage-as pseudoparasites on a paralyzed spider or caterpillar (not always paralyzed, either!). then they kill the host upon emergence. Ever seen a caterpillar with a set of white little cocoons sticking out of it's back?

(a cold shiver run down thy spine) I am reminded of the movie 'Arachnophobia.'

I'm pretty sure that's just the writer's invention. I never heard of any spider demon doing this.
As much as it looks UNCOMFORTABLE as hell for Aya, it doesn't look FATAL or even damaging, I mean, there's no bleeding or anything. And even giving birth through the normal openings isn't exactly hilarious fun.
