As far as I know it's associated with luck for the new year (setsubun is basically on the CNY). Supposed to face the lucky direction for that year and eat an uncut roll in entirety in silence.

So its one of those trials they always have and this one is for luck. Interesting if I was trying to eat this and saw some one else eating it yeah I might laugh so the silence thing is gonna be a challenge
