I mean, we have had American ships like Honolulu and Kamoi get a bit obsessed with their namesakes so I don't see why not here.
Imagine if Alabama look like...her hair resemblance to Confederacy Flag and her Abyssal counterpart will be an conehead ghost hood carrying an conning tower based a cross. Once she revealed as damaged, her ghost hood was been torn by fire while her cross burning.
TheArtistManTrung gave a perfect object lesson as to why being too based can be toxic
Alabama was made a museum ship in her name state in 1964, during the height of the civil rights movement. While I can see her indulging in a little Confederate pride, I can't see her describing it as anything more than "state's rights".
Yo, what happened to your brillant idea of buying the franchise in order to do it justice ? We're waiting for your brillant changes man ! Do it ! DO IT !! s/
On the other hand, I totally dig this design, and her abyssal self is even better with the anglerfish !
During the Marshall Islands Campaign in 1944, Indiana was pulling out of formation from Task Group 58.1 (turning left) to refuel some DDs, when her commanding officer suddenly decided to turn right instead. Unfortunately, the rest of the ships weren't told of this change (on top of everyone being blacked out and in the dark) and Indiana ended up steering right into the path of Washington. Both ships saw each other and attempted evasive maneuvers, but it ended up being too late. Washington scrapped along Indiana and got her forward hull torn off and nearly lost her bow (which is referenced in her damaged CG). Indiana got a nice gash on her starboard aft and lost a propeller shaft, several MGs, a seaplane/catapult, and about 61 meters of armor (amongst several other things). Sadly, 10 seamen were killed or missing as a result of this. Both ships probably would have been done for if not for their excellent crew/damage control (along with Washington's quick reaction).
