For once, I'm with her. I still don't understand how this 6-7 infohazard came to be, or how it is even "funny".
Just kids desperate to have their own secret club with their secret slang. It's the internet equivalent of that kid hanging out during recess and asking everyone if they have balls while laughing to himself that nobody understand that he means testicles and not a football ball.

Or maybe it's a senseless number that is funny because it's senseless as much as it's everywhere. You were young once and since you were here in 2009 so I assume we are around the same age, you should know more than anyone else the stupid shit we made up on the internet to be funny, even though it made no sense to anyone else.

According to KnowYourMeme, people were apparently using it to get Internet famous. Specifically, by being added in a TikTok edit of an intro for the 6'7" basketball player LaMelo Ball. Another basketball player and TikToker, Taylen Kinney, spread it further by intentionally using it all the time and even added the hand gesture, so ultimately, I think you could probably blame him for this.

I don't know. A lot of these made up internet slangs used to be pretty funny if rather specific most of the time. Like call them dumb silly games, kids used to actually put a lot of thoughts into those because beside the aspect of an inside joke, kids also love it when they explain a joke and see other kids just go "Oooooh" in awe since they get to feel superior to the rest.
Nowadays internet slangs and memes are just nonsensical bs that some clout chaser spouted that unfortunately caught on with the brain rot crowd.

I've seen the "inside joke" argument used for other memes and cultural phenomena before and I always found it to be incredibly cynical and out of touch. We do things because we find them to be funny, it was like this before and from what I have seen for myself it's what we still do today.
Although it originates from outside (and before) the internet, I find 420 to be utterly detestable as far as funny numbers go. Everything about it stinks and there's nothing clever about it.
