I just clicked on the image to expand it to its full resolution, and then right clicked and selected 'Open image in new tab'.

If it doesn't let you do this for whatever reason, just open the Inspect menu/Developer Tools and click the icon that looks like a square with an arrow pointing into it. This lets you select elements on the page. Click the image you want to save.
It should then highlight the image's source in the developer sidebar log thingy, and will show a thumbnail of the image so that's when you know you've got it right. You just click the source/link and it'll open the file itself in a new tab.

...Something like that. I assume it depends on the Poipiku post. And pardon my odd terminology, I'm not very good with technology T_T

As for it being 'allowed', I am unsure;;
