Holy... This has got to be one of the most depressing Blue Archive posts that I have seen here. Not the most; that belongs to some others, such the posts involving Sensei's suicide. But, this has got to be one of them.
Sensei here, I think, is going through survivors' guilt. The fact that he, the one who is supposed to care for Hina and lay down his life for her and her other peers makes him feel a great load of shame in his mind. He doesn't seem like one who desires or intends to neglect his duties; he tries within his constraints, but he fails in this situation. I think this is what would amplify his mental pain and suffering.
The panel with a memory of Hina still living, is kind of a reminder to him, of who he lost: someone who looked up to him, who loved him with all her heart, and who cared for him too, leading to her untimely demise. Her selfless actions touches his heart, and breaks it.
For some reason I see this going hand in hand with the Sensei suicide posts too. Out of guilt and shame after this traumatic situation, he drowns in it completely, and as a result, he resorts to the last option he has, in his perspective, which is to remove himself from existence in his world.
I also see another route that he could take, and that is revenge. That indecisive, somewhat professional yet somehow blissfully naïve personality he possesses may be a façade for all the emotions he truly felt at that moment. Guilt and shame wouldn't fully consume him here; rather, ardor, or passion, would fill part of the empty void in his shattered heart. He would be driven by revenge here.
Although, at some point, later down the line, he has to reconcile with himself... If he doesn't, I'd think he would eventually fall down the first path, which is.his full surrender to his own guilt. Or he'd die. He'd probably die if he doesn't reconcile with himself. Passion will bring you far, but when you reach the end, and ultimately revenge is taken in its totality, what is left? Sensei has not fully relieved himself of the shame and guilt he gained after the tragedy. And so, it is like a dormant form of tuberculosis, in the sense that all the guilt and shame he has is contained by the passion he has for revenge; and when that is gone, it will only grow in his heart. Not to mention the fact that he himself could die in his course for vengeance. So he has to reconcile with himself.
