    Context:

The Brazen Bull was an ancient Greek execution device commissioned by Phalaris, the tyrant of Akragas in Sicily. The craftsman Perillos of Athens built it, but according to legend, Phalaris found the invention so cruel that he decided to test it on Perillos himself, making the inventor the bull’s first victim before later executing him.
