I mean, people using their religion as a shield to cower behind while being assholes is pretty normal with abrahamic religions.
Those same people are the ones who only care about the rules if they can force them on others, to the point of making shit up which is supposedly against their religion just so they have an excuse to be an asshole.
The point I'm trying to make is to not put the blame on the religion itself, the ones claiming to practice it are fair game though.

i agree with this and that's the point i was trying to make too.
religion is by itself not anything offensive, rather i'm just not fond of people using christianity and other religions as a way to make criticism against them less acceptable
it is both harmful to actual religious folk who get grouped in with bigots that don't have any actual respect for their beliefs aside from what it lets them say about minorities and the minority groups themselves, who also may be part of the former group.

"anti-woke" christians give nothing to their religious community while (mostly queer) religious kids on social media make some truly beautiful art of tales from the bible,and put a lot of effort into their depictions of jesus because they admire what he stood for, and that's great to me. that is just a modern form of worship, and it's no less christian.
