Just make an eroge at this point lol. Atp the game's so divorced from the concept it's allegedly based off of it might as well just drop the pretense and put these character designs in a game that fits them properly. This is hot as hell and I can't help but feel it's wasted on this game in particular

And they wonder why large swaths of TTKs see AL as nothing more than a sluttier ripoff of KanColle...

It's just a shitty version of Nikke and Brown Dust 2 and games of that like with a premise it is so far removed on at every level that it's making the game redundant. It's basically just an excuse for the devs to commission their favourite artists to make softcore porn, and- I'll be that guy- grossly disrespectful to the history of the vessels, the conflict they fought in, and the men that served on them, if the vessels are even fucking real and not just further and further departures from reality and/or the era the game originally claimed to depict. Just start a new game and use resources on that, and make the original characters and lewd scenarios that you want, it's fine. I'm almost glad they didn't get to Iowa or Yamato in the state they're in.
Yeah i eventually had felt that it was time to leave. It was losing a lot of it's naval soul.
I stopped playing years ago but I kept up with it out of an interest in naval history and because I liked the designs of the ships. The gameplay was non existent and the gacha amounted to collecting JPGs and I figured I could do that and view the voice lines on Ryuma Brunestud's channel or something without playing the game.
And I've loosely kept up with it ever since, even if I pretty quickly dropped the shitpile of a main campaign story. And I've enjoyed the designs and art and characters that have come out of the game since, one look at my favourites'll tell you that. But. Why this game? Why choose to go the Brown Dust 2 route in a game about actual serious history? What purpose do these girls being 'based off of real ships' serve for the game or what they're trying to do? Why use this art on a character like that in a game ostensibly grounded in history? Azur Lane is redundant and pointless, there are games that do softcore titillating stuff way better, with stories that are at bare minimum servicable and even have gameplay that actually makes you interested.
The only distinct thing Azur Lane has going for it is the naval side of things, and that's set dressing for a school play at this point. It serves no purpose and is a game that survives on ever dwindling publicity from the artists it commissions. As a game, it offers nothing. Might as well just pretend these are OCs.
I know this is a long rant for the danbooru comments section but I've been thinking about this recently so why not?

Honestly this shouldn't be downvoted, if this incites more conversation then this comment is is not in vain.

This is something that really stings at me too, will history be so kind on Azur Lane 10 years after it ends after everything it's become, when comparing it to Kancolle?
