I don't get it. Shrimp fried rice I know but what does road work ahead mean?

I think it's referring to scenes like this, except with ramps because construction site or a whole unfinished section of the road.

It means some form of construction or maintenance involving the road is in progress. Things like repaving or widening the road, or cutting through it to install/repair underground pipes etc.

The road better work.
