For unknown reason, Shirakami Fubuki lost her Twitter verified checkmark. Not just her but Sakura Miko as well.

We know the reason in Miko's case. She had to change her display name to "Momosuzu Mikochi" as she lost to Nene in the Puyopuyo Tetris tournament, but Twitter has a rule that if you change your display name, you temporarily lose your verified checkmark until Twitter validates it.

Wasn't Musk taking away everyone's blue checkmarks in order to turn it into a purely paid service? Or was he actually forced to walk that back?

He did. Dunno if it's still the case anymore. Then he changed it again because people were buying blue checkmarks, then switched their name to "Elon Musk is a fucking hack, 44 billions for Twitter just because he wanted to allow his pathetic fuckbuddies to shitpost again after Trump's shit own network crashed and burned like the miserable failure it is, money well-spent, good job champ, but hey at least you get to sniff your own fart a bit longer and convince yourself you're a genius", which hurt his feelings, so now, you gotta have you have to (paid) checkmarks verified by the thoughtpolice.
