Still, hardly a terrible ending. If Futaro had suddenly found out that Reiha was adopted and married her instead of one of the Nakanos, that would have been a terrible ending.

Yotsuba was the only one who was always there for Futaro from the start when all the other girls were jerks to him and she has the sweetest personality, hardly just "okay".
Early bird gets the worm, and I'm not referring to the Yotsuba being the childhood friend either. Nino was way too hostile and abusive towards Futaro in the beginning and she hurt her sisters at the end because of him, so she didn't deserve the victory. Miku's great but she was too dependent on Futaro and their relationship was one-sided in that regard.
@AtlanteanJourneyor: Miku's hostility to Futaro lasts all of three chapters, and she does make a consistent effort to support him starting in chapter 5. Heck, the scene in the river makes a point of showing her getting close to Futaro. I wouldn't say it was that one-sided. And when I say Yotsuba is okay, I'm not just talking about her chemistry with Futaro. She makes for a funny comic relief, and her more serious character moments can be good, but they're pretty infrequent, she seldom has a major role in story arcs, we don't get the major insights into her character until late in the story, and she doesn't get much on-page character development until the denouement arc. Calling her the sweetest is also complicated some by the fact that she spent years looking down on and resenting her sisters. And I'm not saying that last one as a reason to dislike Yotsuba as a character; I actually found it a neat complication to her seemingly-straightforward character. As for Nino, my impression of her during the Denouement arc wasn't that she was trying to hurt Yotsuba, but that she was actually trying to encourage her to be with Futaro. Just, in her own peculiar way.
Still, the way people feel about a story is subjective, and if you feel more satisfied with the ending than I do, then I can't say you're wrong to feel that way. And thanks for the reply. I got to this fandom pretty late, and I've been wanting somebody to discuss it with.
