I can see Marine's mom in the picture on the back wall, but I can't be sure who the other person is in that picture. She had two working eyes before what ever happened to her now....

Pirates (and other sailors) wore eyepatches to help their eyes adjust to the darkness below deck.

That's just a hypothesis suggested by one guy within the last 100 years. While tests have confirmed it's plausible, there's never been any historical records found to confirm it.
