While it's not like their normal gear is much better, it's really amusing that you send a carrier like Shoukaku out on sorties wearing a furisode like this... these things aren't cheap to replace if you get holes blown in them!

Not really, there was that degrading monkey ear period between release and Abucute-sama Kai 2 came out which turned everything around. But from there it's been improving yeah.
