In Japan women are considered christmas cakes if they're not married after the age of 25, thus the nickname.

I would bet the Santas has a hand or two in why she doesn't have a boyfriend.
That would explain the grudge and her tears.

Reminder to everyone in the comments that 'Christmas cake' as a term has basically been phased out over the past 20 or so years, especially as the average age of marriage for women circa 2009 was 28. 'Unsold goods' (urenokori) has been the term introduced since.

Well, "Christmas cake" would be a much bigger insult then, I guess.
The word is old and means the same as "unsold goods".

That's just me though.
