    Also ugly bastard characters aren't that common, they're just memorable.

    that's really not true, there is a coreelation between the parents atractiveness and the children looks. Some times RNJesus takes pity on the kid or delivers divine punishment on the parents, but outrside of that the kid tends to look like the parents.

    I heard that average-looking couples tend to produce better looking kids since their genes mesh together better, while good-looking couples have kids whose genes don't necessarily mesh well, but I can't say how true that is. Genetics tends to be pretty weird as a whole.
