Well I for one feel saddened for her, as she tends to get the short end of the stick from this artist's portrayal. Though it does demonstrate the real-life consequences of being too tsundere, where there aren't any plot contrivances to push the two love interests back together again.

To add some extra context to the above image, it takes place right after Ooarai defeats Kuromorimine in the finals, so I imagine she would be more emotionally vulnerable at such a time.

German soldier is separated from his sweetheart (named Erika). He sees erica/erika (the flower) and starts thinking about said sweetheart.

Guy in this comic here also sees the erika flower and starts thinking about Itsumi Erika.

English equivalent would be someone seeing heather flowers and started thinking about a girl named Heather.

Note that heath/heather is a related species that also has a similar appearance.
