AKA a Vtuber retiring means that's also the end for the character. You don't see Aloe's or any CN Hololivers avatar being 'revived' to use again.

Although reviving them via advanced AI after COVER has ceased to exist and their trademark period ended would've been a green from law perspectives.

That highly depends on if the Vtubers culture can hold for that long.

Not exactly true, as it did happen before on another VTuber agency. VTubers from the Game Club had the original voices of the characters in that agency replaced.

Sadly a vtuber under "hold" by a company cannot be used if the person behind the avatar wants to go "indie". Although the company can replace the person who is voicing the vtuber though like a certain group where it ended in a major backlash.

Leaving aside the fantasy of the revival after 9 centuries, I know at least two stories that the Vtuber retiring did not mean the end of the character:

• Sasaki Saku once "graduated" from Nijisanji in November 2018. But as the circumstances that caused that graduation changed, the management invited her back and she returned in January 2019.
• I don't speak Korean, but I heard that SE:A's voice actors were replaced in June 2020, though she has continued to gain popularity without a backlash.

There's also the first offender/case: KIZUNA AI's original VA got kubi'd and it's replaced by new VA.

Clarification for Kizuna Ai's case: Not necessarily replacement but the company hired other VAs to take on more work (like a Chinese speaking VA for bilibili). The original Kizuna Ai VA was and still is around. Right now, there's only the one and only original Kizuna Ai.

Huh, I guess I've misremembered it or something. I do remember people saying that her voice was changed somewhen during the 'expansion' program where AI branches to make video clips and to the chinese bilibili, and there's someone ranting about being kubi'd in twitter, and people started making comparations and observations about the original VA wasn't the one singing.

Then again my brain can't really remember the details.
