The Japanese word 一肌脱ぐ is an idiomatic expression meaning to "pitch earnestly in to help (someone)". But It literally means to strip "one side" (of the skin), with the idiom being derived from the image of someone in a kimono stripping down one side of their clothes to make it easier to perform strenuous tasks.

Though now that I think about it, English also has an equivalent idiom in "to give someone the shirt off one's back". Bit wordy though.

Here I was gonna say something about "rolling up one's sleeves," but I think you've found a better one.

Ha, works even better in the main comic, as part of the punchline! Always brings a smile to my face when a pun gets translated 'perfectly' across language boundaries.

She's actually just self-conscious about having gained some weight recently. Sounds like she'd be more comfortable with it after trimming some off.
